Flor y Canto Literary Festival

Showcasing local, national, and international poets, we provide a forum for emerging voices of the Mission District and Latino community / Presentando a poetas locales, nacionales e internacionales, ofrecemos un foro para las voces emergentes del Distrito de la Misión y la comunidad latina.
Flor y Canto provides our audience enriching experiences, opportunities to promote the literary arts, and enhance the mental well-being and confidence of our neighborhood and city at large / Flor y Canto ofrece a nuestro público experiencias enriquecedoras, oportunidades para promover las artes literarias y mejorar el bienestar mental y la confianza de nuestro vecindario y la ciudad en general.
SCHEDULE: The festival will run for three days—April 11-13, 2019. Everyone is welcome and all events are free and open to the public.
Thursday April 11, 5:30PM: Opening Mayan blessing, Balmy Alley at 24th Street.
Paseo Poético on 24th Street. The venues for this phase of the lit crawl will be bookstores, cafes and community center along the 24th Street Cultural Corridor.
The April 11 Paseo Poético will feature readings by local poets all along 24th Street.
Friday April 12 6-8Pm at L’s Caffe the festival will feature the book release of “Solito, solita” first person stories of young refugees crossing the border unaccompanied.
Saturday April 13: 2-4 PM The festival will feature a series of workshops on 24th Street. The International Flor y Canto Festival will be partnering with the SF Public Library Mission Branch for a translators panel; other workshops will be at Precita Eyes for a Mayan glyphs and literature, and another workshop on Acrostic poetry at Alley Cat Books.
Saturday April 13, 7-9Pm Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts—in the evening will be the major event of the festival with two invited poets from Merida, Yucatan—Feliciano Chan and Fer de la Cruz, also on the evenings program will be Kim Shuck, San Francisco Poet Laureate.
