La Doña and Encuentro del Canto Popular

We interview Mission-raised, up-and-coming musician and music educator Cecilia Peña-Govea AKA La Doña, who is co-hosting Acción Latina’s Encuentro del Canto Popular at the Chapel, this Sunday, Dec. 8th. She has been playing with her family, La Familia Peña-Govea since she was little. Her musical influences include reggaeton, dembow rhythm, cumbia, rancheras and hyphy. She says,

“Don’t let anyone else shape your creative output. The only thing you have are your own ideas, your own unique output. Don’t create for your audience. Create for yourself.”
