Additional information:
Bamby Salcedo’s Story is a documentary by Dante Alencastre, on the life of renowned Los
Angeles-based Trans Latina activist and leader, Bamby Salcedo. Her one-on one storytelling in this gripping and
intimate film reveals her early life struggles in Mexico, through addiction, prison, prejudice and loss, and on toward
her unlikely and transcendent rise. Turning personal challenges and barriers into the very basis of her social activism, Bamby gives voice and visibility to not only the transgender community, but also to the multiple, overlapping communities and issues that her life has touched (including immigrant, HIV+, youth and LGBT communities.) We see the impact of her current pioneering work with trans youth at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles as well as her wide-ranging and tireless activism. What emerges is a portrait of a beloved social advocate in mid-career; an individual who so fully and completely participates in her life that it is infectious and inspirational.
