About the event

The American Indian Cultural District (AICD) was officially recognized as a state-designated Cultural District by the California Arts Council (CAC) on Friday, December 12th, 2025. Established on March 31st, 2020, it is the only recognized American Indian Cultural District of its kind and size in California and the United States, dedicated to recognizing, honoring, and celebrating the American Indian legacy, culture, people, and contributions throughout Yelamu (San Francisco).

The celebration will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony, special guest speakers—including elected officials and tribal leaders—and a parade honoring American Indian and Indigenous cultures. This event is free and open to the public.

The event is hosted in partnership the American Indian Cultural Center, Association of Ramaytush Ohlone, Bay Area American Indian Two Spirits, Native American Health Center, Indigenous Justice, Friendship House Association of American Indians, Wahpepahs Kitchen, SFUSD Indian Education Program, Calle 24 Cultural District, and The Cultural Conservancy.
