The Isadora Duncan Dance Awards

Back in person again, the Izzies Dance Awards ceremony will provide a space for the Bay Area’s vibrant dance community to connect, celebrate and reflect on those who have left us too soon and those who are still breaking all the rules and flying high.

Isadora Duncan Dance Awards, fondly known as the Izzies, began in 1985, recognize a diverse range of genres, dancers, choreographers, designers, composers, dance companies, scholars and others who have had a profound impact on the local scene.

During the award’s performance cycle, which is Sept. 1 to the following year’s Aug. 31, the Izzie committee reviews hundreds of performances, meeting monthly to discuss candidates. Composed of 10 artists, teachers, dance writers, academics and arts administrators, the committee then votes on final nominees in September.
